Cookie Policy

Last modified: June 15, 2025

This Cookie Policy section explains how Babelix uses cookies and similar technologies, including the types of cookies we employ, their purposes, and your options for managing them. By using our services, after seeing and consenting (where legally required) to the cookie banner or notice, you accept the use of cookies as described here.

What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your browser or device when you visit a website. They contain information the website can read or update on subsequent visits, such as remembering your preferences or keeping you logged in. Cookies can be “first-party” (set by the Babelix domain itself) or “third-party” (set by domains other than Babelix, related to external services we use, such as Google or Facebook).

Similar tracking technologies exist in addition to cookies, such as tracking pixels (small transparent images embedded in a page that send information when loaded), local storage in the browser, or identifiers in mobile apps (e.g., mobile advertising IDs). For simplicity, this Policy refers to all these technologies as “cookies,” even though they encompass more than text files.

Cookies alone do not collect your personal information, but they can be associated with your personal data if, for example, you remain logged in to our site. Babelix uses both session cookies (which are deleted when you close your browser) and persistent cookies (which stay for a defined period or until you delete them), depending on their purpose.

What types of cookies do we use?

At Babelix, we use the following categories of cookies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies: These are essential for the website and application to function correctly and for you to use its basic features. For example, they keep you logged in as you navigate Babelix, remember your privacy or language settings, balance server load to keep the site available, and store your cookie consent once given. Many of Babelix’s core services could not be provided without these cookies, so you cannot opt out of them via our settings (they are set by default). Generally, these cookies collect only the data necessary and are first-party cookies from Babelix.
  • Analytical cookies: These help us understand how users interact with Babelix by collecting information anonymously and in aggregate. They are used to count visitors, identify which pages or sections are most frequently viewed, measure the time spent on the site, and detect errors on specific pages. At Babelix, we primarily use Google Analytics for these purposes. For example, Google Analytics sets cookies such as _ga  _gid, which assigns an anonymous identifier to your browser to distinguish it from others and generate aggregated statistics (e.g., X% of users accessed via mobile). Data collected through analytical cookies does not identify you personally; it informs us of overall usage trends. These cookies are set only with your consent (especially for EU users, in compliance with ePrivacy rules). If you prefer not to participate in analytics, you can disable these cookies as described in the “How to manage cookies?” section below.

Marketing (Advertising) Cookies

  • We use marketing cookies for digital advertising purposes, either to measure the effectiveness of our own ad campaigns or (to a lesser extent) to personalize ads shown on Babelix or third‑party sites visited by Babelix users. These cookies will remind you that you visited our site or app, record your browsing activity on Babelix, and infer your interests so that, for example, ad networks can display more relevant Babelix ads to you. This category includes Babelix’s first-party advertising cookies (e.g., to promote certain highlighted profiles within the platform based on compatibility) and primarily third-party advertising cookies from ad networks with which we partner. Examples include:
    • Facebook Pixel: Sets cookies such as fr  fbp That collects data about your Babelix navigation (e.g., pages viewed, whether you completed registration). This enables us to create custom audiences on Facebook to display Babelix ads to users who have visited our site, or to perform retargeting.
    • Google Ads/DoubleClick Cookies: If we run ads via Google, Google Ads may set a cookie (e.g., the DoubleClick IDE cookie) in your browser when you arrive at Babelix through an ad, to track conversions (if you registered after clicking our ad) or to retarget you with new Babelix ads across Google’s Display Network.
    • Other Ad Networks: Occasionally, we may use third-party advertising cookies from various platforms (e.g., Twitter Ads, Reddit Ads) when running campaigns on those platforms. In all cases, the functionality is similar: these cookies uniquely identify your browser and note that you visited Babelix for ad attribution or retargeting purposes.

These marketing cookies are generally set only with your consent. If you decline them, this will not affect Babelix’s essential functions; it only means you will see less personalized advertising from us on other sites (you may still see Babelix ads, but they will be context‑based rather than profile‑based).

Functionality (Preference) Cookies

  • Functionality cookies allow us to remember your choices and provide enhanced, personalized features that are not strictly necessary. For example, they remember your language preference, whether you have enabled or disabled an optional feature, or present you with the correct site layout based on your device. They may also include cookies related to live chat support functions (if available) or social login integrations (e.g., Facebook login cookies). These cookies are typically first‑party (set by Babelix) or from providers that supply the functionality. You can block them, but some preferences may not be saved correctly. We generally request your consent for these cookies, except for those strictly necessary to provide the service you have requested.

Cookie Duration

Some cookies (necessary) only last for the duration of your browsing session (session cookies), while others persist for a longer period. For example, analytical and marketing cookies may remain in place for a few days to several months or even years, depending on their purpose. On Babelix, Google Analytics cookies typically have a duration of 24 hours (_gid) up to 2 years (_ga) unless you delete them manually; Facebook cookies may last around 3 months, etc. Third-party providers define these durations; Babelix uses them to recognize you on future visits within those timeframes until they expire or you delete them.

Third‑Party Cookies & External Tools

  • Google Analytics: Web analytics service by Google LLC. It collects anonymized usage data (such as pages viewed and interactions) to provide us with reports.
    Google Analytics Cookie Policy
  • Google Ads (Conversion Tracking & Remarketing): Google tools for tracking ad conversions and retargeting. They let us know if a user completed a specific action after seeing our Google ad, and then show Babelix ads on other sites.
    Google Ads Cookie Policy
  • Facebook Pixel (Meta): A Meta Platforms, Inc. tool (Facebook) that helps us with audience analysis and retargeting on Facebook/Instagram. It collects data about Babelix visitors linked to a Facebook identifier (if available) to measure ad performance or create lookalike audiences.
    Facebook Cookie Policy
  • Email/Marketing Tools: Our marketing emails may include small tracking pixels that indicate if you opened the email or clicked a link, helping us measure campaign effectiveness. You can block external images in your email client to prevent this tracking.
  • Support Services: If we integrate live chat or feedback surveys (e.g., Zendesk, Intercom), those services may set cookies to remember your chat session or prevent the same survey from reappearing repeatedly.
  • Social Networks: If we later offer social login or content sharing (e.g., Twitter, Instagram), those platforms may set cookies via our site. Babelix does not include significant social plugins that set third‑party cookies by default (aside from login or pixel tools mentioned above).

Please note that these third parties may use the information collected via their cookies for their own purposes, as outlined in their respective privacy policies. For example, if you have a Google or Facebook account, they may link your Babelix browsing data with other profile data for personalized ads outside of Babelix. Babelix uses these tools primarily to improve our own marketing and service, not to track your behavior beyond what is necessary.

How to Manage or Disable Cookies

You have several options to control cookie usage and opt out of tracking:

  • Babelix Cookie Settings Panel: When you first visit our site, you will see a cookie banner where you can accept or reject different categories of non-essential cookies (analytics, marketing, etc.). You can change your preferences at any time by accessing the cookie settings panel (e.g., via a “Cookie Settings” link in the footer). From there, you can enable or disable optional cookie categories as you prefer. Your selections will be remembered on future visits (unless you clear your cookies, in which case you will be prompted again).
  • Web Browser Settings: Most web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc.) allow you to block or delete cookies. You can configure your browser to reject all or only third‑party cookies or notify you when a site attempts to set cookies. You can also delete stored cookies at any time. These options are typically located under “Options,” “Preferences,” “Privacy,” or “Security.” Please note that blocking all cookies may prevent certain parts of our site from functioning correctly (for example, you may be unable to log in). Blocking only third‑party cookies generally does not affect Babelix’s core functionality.
  • Third-Party Opt-Out Tools:
    • Install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on, available from Google, which prevents Google Analytics from tracking your activity on sites you visit.
    • For Google Ads cookies (DoubleClick), adjust your preferences in the Google Ads Settings when logged into your Google account.
    • Manage your ad preferences under Ads in your Facebook settings to disable ads based on partner data.
    • Visit the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) Opt-Out or the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) Opt-Out to opt out of personalized ads from participating companies. In Europe, use YourOnlineChoices to manage behavioral advertising preferences by company.
  • Do Not Track (DNT): Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal to websites. There is no universal standard for honoring Do Not Track (DNT), so Babelix currently does not respond to conventional DNT signals. However, we do recognize the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in California as a valid request to opt out of marketing cookies. In any case, you can use the tools above to control tracking.
  • Mobile Devices: If you access Babelix via a mobile browser (or through a future app), traditional cookies may not be applicable, but your device’s advertising identifier will be. Both iOS and Android allow you to limit ad tracking or reset your advertising ID:
    • On iOS: Settings → Privacy → Advertising → Limit Ad Tracking.
    • On Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization.

These settings instruct apps not to use your ad identifier for profiling or personalized ads. Uninstalling the app will remove the associated cache and local storage, clearing any local app data.

Please note that after changing your cookie preferences or using any of these options, you may need to refresh the page or restart the app for the changes to take effect. If you delete all cookies, the cookie banner will reappear on your next visit to request your consent again, as your previous choices will have been cleared.

Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy and Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or other operational reasons. If we make material changes—especially any change affecting the purposes or legal basis for processing your data, or your rights—we will notify you by appropriate means: for example, by posting a prominent notice on our site or app, and/or sending an email to the address associated with your account, in advance when required by law. The “Last updated” date at the top of this document indicates when it was last revised.

We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information. Unless we specify otherwise, any updates will take effect on the date they are posted. If you continue to use Babelix after the updated policy takes effect, you will be deemed to accept the changes. However, if a change legally requires your explicit consent (for example, introducing a new processing purpose that requires consent), we will request your explicit consent.
